Design a Kitchen Floorplan in 3 Simple Steps
Thursday, August 13th, 2009If you decide that your kitchen needs a fresh look, or perhaps you are moving into a new home and are designing from scratch - you will need to know then best way to go about remodelling your kitchen. All you will need is a pencil, a tape measure, graph paper and if you feel like doing a really professional job you might want to invest in some kitchen design software.
1) You should begin by taking careful measurements of your entire kitchen space.Be careful to make sure to measure from wall to wall rather than from the edge of the current cabinets. Using your graph paper, draw out all of the measurements and try to use a scale of one foot or 6 inches to each square on your paper. This will ensure that your floor plan is a reasonably sized representation of what your kitchen will look like.
2) The next step is to carefully measure all of the door and window spaces and include them on your kitchen diagram. If there are any other obscure brick structures in your kitchen (such as the chimney) be sure to include them also. When this has been completed, be sure that you measure and make note of the ceiling height, taking into account any sloping areas of the ceiling.
3) When all of the measurements have been accurately taken down and drawn the next step is for you to design the actual layout. If you have been using kitchen cad software to draw your diagrams, it is likely that it will also include the facility to place computer models of your desired appliances on your diagram. The design software will then be able to generate a 3D representation of how your kitchen will look.
If you have been using good old fashioned pencil and paper for your diagram, then it could well be worth investing some money in purchasing some interior design software. Not only will software save you a lot of time and effort in designing your kitchen, but if you have other much larger DIY projects planned then it will help you to redesign and remodel the other rooms in your house.
