Completing Your Patio Or Deck – Teak Planters

As you work on the look of your patio or deck area, what are you missing? You may have forgotten to bring some of the yard a little closer to you. Often when we build patios and decks, all the green goes away to create a new ground of concrete, tile or wood. But isn’t the green in the yard the reason you were coming out here in the first place? While we are not advising letting vines and plants take over your patio or deck, it wouldn’t hurt to let them accent the outdoor area.

It’s simple to keep plants on your deck or patio, and under control, using teak planters. And even though you hadn’t thought of this before, you can look like it was your plan all along, by getting planters that match the rest of your outdoor furniture.

Everything was great until probably the first week of June when we suddenly were hit with a heat wave. No problem, I thought. I just brewed up a fresh batch of iced tea and brought it outside to settle in for a lazy afternoon on the patio.

Well, that lasted about five minutes. Because if I would have stayed out there any longer, I would’ve gone blind from the sun in my eyes, turned red as a lobster, or lost about 10 pounds from all the sweating I was going to be doing.

And it’s not that we live in a hot climate. We’re in a very temperate region that really only gets extremely hot for maybe a couple weeks out of the year. But there’s something about being out on an exposed patio or deck that really just makes it impossible unless you have a good patio canopy to protect you.

There are companies that specialize in custom creations including teak planters. You will be able to specify just what you want in your teak planters and get the perfect pieces to match the rest of your teak furniture. But do you know what you want? There are generally three types of teak planters you can choose from.

Open Sides – These are planters that are made of slats of wood, set side by side, to create the shape. There is a little space between each slat, which allows a little bit of a peek-a-boo effect and can be very attractive. The downside of these planers is that you will need to put a pot inside the teak planters, so dirt and roots don’t come out between the slats.

If you want that little feature — and who doesn’t? — then you have to go with a manufacturer that is able to build this into the patio canopies they produce. Again, we’ll get to the resource I’ve found for finding this kind of thing in just a second.

Improving your deck or patio can be simple and inexpensive. Container gardening is one way to instantly create a beautiful and welcoming outdoor space without a lot of time or money. You’re just a step away from having an outdoor space you can enjoy for many years to come.
